I'm told this might be possible with lua scripting, but this stuff is all beyond me. I'm basically looking for something that will take a channel from one window (an immortal channel, for instance) and displays it in another window (mortal window) so I can be aware of what's going on at all time. Is this possible with mushclient and use of lua scripting?

This is possible. Take a look at the Chat Redirector plugin which already does that, although it may need to have triggers adjusted to properly work with your channels.

There was recently a discussion on someone modifying the plugin to suit their environment, it should be able to help you if you can find it.
